Cemex supplied more than 300,000 cubic yards of concrete for the first section of the Los Angeles Metro D Line Extension and expects to provide more than 400,000 additional cubic yards for the remaining phases.
MONTERREY, Mexico, Oct. 20, 2026, (CALIFORNIA NEWS TODAY) — Construction materials company Cemex supplied more than 300,000 cubic yards of concrete for Section 1 of the Los Angeles Metro D Line Extension, an underground transit project expanding subway service west from Wilshire/Western.

Section 1 extends the D Line to Wilshire/La Cienega and adds three underground stations at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega. Construction is being carried out by the Skanska–Traylor–Shea Joint Venture, with Skanska serving as Lead Contractor.
According to Cemex, it expects to supply more than 400,000 additional cubic yards of concrete for Sections 2 and 3 of the extension.
The concrete supplied for Section 1 was used in structural elements including vaulted station roofs and reinforced concrete side walls measuring up to four feet thick. The structures are designed to support open, column-free passenger platforms underground.
Construction beneath the urban corridor required coordination around existing utilities and challenging ground conditions, including tar sand, high groundwater levels, gassy soils and nearby earthquake fault zones.
“Resilient infrastructure is fundamental to building more connected and livable cities. Cemex is proud to support the D Line Extension with the essential materials, technical expertise and execution needed for one of Los Angeles’ most complex underground construction projects,” said Jesus González, Cemex US President.
The full D Line Extension will add approximately nine miles of subway service connecting Downtown Los Angeles with the Westside. Section 1 has been completed, while Sections 2 and 3 are expected to continue development through 2026 and 2027, according to LA Metro.
Cemex produces cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates and other construction materials for infrastructure, commercial and residential projects.
